Descriptif du site et monument historique
The Tour du Change, also known as the Tour de l'Horloge, is one of Beaugency's most emblematic monuments. Under this medieval gateway ran Beaugency's ‘maîtresse-rue’ (main street). This main thoroughfare was one of the few paved streets in the 15th century.
This former section of the fortified wall was used by the town's burghers as a meeting place before they built the town hall. In 1511, they fitted it with a clock, attesting to the development of public power.
The Clock Tower is currently being restored as part of a campaign run by the Fondation du Patrimoine.
