Built in 1629 and restored in 1870, the Porte d'Amont is the only surviving gate in Meung-sur-Loire's ramparts. It was the main gate, the gate of honour, as it served as a meeting place for the aldermen. It also enabled the inhabitants to protect themselves and defend the town.
