Descriptif du site et monument historique
The church of Saint-Hippolyte was rebuilt in 1861, after the old church, located near the Loire, was deemed too dilapidated. At that time, the clergy, the town council and the conseil de fabrique decided, after lengthy negotiations, to move it to the present-day market town, along with the presbytery and the cemetery.
The new church incorporates elements of the former 12th-century structure, such as two colonnettes, modillions and the portal. The building has a nave flanked by aisles, topped by a carpentry spire typical of its style. This project was part of the development of the village, which, with the construction of the town hall and school in 1843, was gradually transformed into what we know today.
