Description of heritage

  • Descriptif du centre d'interprétation
On one side is the Loire, on the other the Sologne, and in the middle, Cléry-Saint-André and its elegant basilica, a masterpiece of flamboyant Gothic architecture. A major pilgrimage site since the discovery of a statue of the Virgin Mary in the 13th century, it is also the burial place of King Louis XI, who chose to be buried here.

The Orléans vineyards, already present in the time of the kings, extend over the communes of Cléry-Saint-André, Mareau-aux-Prés and Mézières-lez-Cléry. It became an A.O.C. in 2006 under the Orléans and Orléans-Cléry appellations, and can be enjoyed in red, white or rosé, in the company of our winegrowers.

    > The village of Cléry-Saint-Anndré has been awarded "the Loir'etape label".
