Description of heritage
Descriptif du centre d'interprétation
Claude Chappe's air telegraph was an ingenious means of long-distance communication developed in 1794. At the time, a visual signal could be transmitted between Paris and Bayonne in 40 minutes!
At an impressive 23 metres high, it rivals the church tower next door. It is a survivor of the 500 or so towers that were built in France, with around ten remaining today.
Now restored, the Baccon tower has been converted into a museum.
The Baccon Patrimoine association offers guided tours of the Tour Chappe. The tour takes place on the first Sunday of each month, from April to September, from 2pm to 5pm.Descriptif du parc et jardin
