Visite de la tour Chappe et du musée du télégraphe électrique
The village of Baccon is home to a real curiosity: the Tour Chappe! Claude Chappe's aerial telegraph was an ingenious means of long-distance communication developed in 1794. At an impressive 23 meters high, the Tour Chappe de Baccon rivals the neighbouring church tower. It is a survivor of the 500 Chappe towers built in France, of which only ten remain today. Now restored, the Baccon tower has been converted into a museum.
Every first Sunday of the month from April to September, the Baccon Patrimoine association offers tours of the Chappe tower and its electric telegraph museum. Tours are also available by appointment.
